Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about using the Build Planner, Settlement Planner, and other features.

How do I start creating a build?
Go to the Build Planner page and start by setting your character level. Then allocate your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes, select perks, choose weapons and armor, and view your calculated DPS and EHP statistics in real-time.
What are S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes?
S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stands for Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck. These are the seven core attributes that define your character. You start with 28 points to distribute (each attribute starts at 1).
How are DPS calculations made?
DPS (Damage Per Second) is calculated based on your weapon's base damage, fire rate, modifications, legendary effects, and applicable perks. The formula accounts for damage multipliers, explosive damage, and hit chance. All calculations use data extracted from Fallout 4 game files.
What are synergy warnings?
Synergy warnings alert you when your perk selections don't match your weapon configuration. For example, if you have Rifleman perks but use an automatic weapon, you'll see a warning suggesting Commando perks instead.
Can I save my builds?
Yes! As of 2025, you can save builds to your local browser storage. User accounts with cloud sync are currently in development. Once complete, you'll be able to share builds via unique URLs and export them as JSON or images.
Where does the game data come from?
All game data is extracted directly from Fallout 4 game files using FO4Edit. We track the Anniversary Edition (v1.10.163) and update data when patches are released. See the Data Sources page for more information.
Is this tool official?
No, Wasteland S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is an unofficial fan-made tool. Fallout 4 and related trademarks are property of Bethesda Softworks LLC. This project is not affiliated with or endorsed by Bethesda.
How do I report a data error?
If you notice incorrect damage values, missing perks, or other data issues in 2025, please use the "Report Data Error" link in the footer to submit a detailed report. Include the item/perk name, current value, and expected value for fastest resolution.
